The Boards and Committees of the church consist of volunteer church members nominated annually by the Nominating Committee of the church. The Boards and Committees are responsible to the Church Council.
The Church Council is the primary governing body of the Plantsville Congregational United Church of Christ. It meets monthly and functions on behalf of the congregation providing leadership and direction for the church. The Moderator of the church presides over these meetings.
Council Meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month (except July and August) at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room.
The Christian Action Committee is responsible for the church's mission outreach. "Our Church's Wider Mission" offering, the all-church offerings of the UCC, and special mission projects are its purview. The C.A. Board sponsors the annual Mystery Dinner, whose proceeds are used entirely to support mission outreach projects, including the "Now for the Future" campaign for Silver Lake, and basic support of our Conference ministries.
Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Church Library.
The Board of Christian Education is responsible for the educational life of the church. It oversees the Sunday School program, youth programs, adult education, the Young Family Fellowship, Cradle Roll, and Sunday School Mission Education. The C.E. Board works directly with the Sunday School Administrator, directing and supporting his/her efforts. The Board also plans special events during the year to enrich the congregational life of the church's Sunday School families.
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Youth room.
The Board of Deacons is responsible for the spiritual life of the congregation. It works closely with the ministers(s), providing support for worship, particularly communion, and oversees the work of the ministerial staff. The Deacons are also involved in special events for congregational life.
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for maintaining church facilities, stewardship and managing the finances and investments of the church.
Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room.
The Music Committee
The Music Committee is responsible for the musical life of the congregation. The board works with the organist/choir director, overseeing the Chancel Choir, the Handbell Choir, and special music events. It plans and administers the Memorial Concert series, and is responsible for the care and upkeep of the church's organ, and its pianos.
Meetings are held on the second Sunday of the month after worship after worship as needed.
The Memorial Garden Board is responsible for maintaining the Memorial Gardens surrounding the church and conducting fund raising activities to support the continuous maintenance and improvement of the landscaping of the church property.
Meetings are called as needed during the Spring, Summer and Fall.
Other Church Committees
Other church committees include: The Memorial Gift committee, "Ye Olde Country Fair" Committee, the Offering Stewards, the Safe Church committee, the Flower committee, Scholarship, Kitchen committee, Nominating, and The Plantsville Community Nursery School committee.
