Where God is Still Speaking and All Are Welcome!

The Plantsville Congregational United Church of Christ was founded in 1865 by a small group of members from the First Congregational Church of Southington.  At that time, the founders determined that travel to the downtown church and their need to support the worship needs of their own community were leading them on a journey to a new church home.  As a part of that journey an architect from New York was hired to design a sanctuary that would be uniquely different from the First Church downtown.   Thus was born the Victorian post and beam design which if turned upside down resembles the hull of a ship taking the founders on their new journey.

MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR:

Welcome to Plantsville Congregational United Church of Christ, Where God is Still Speaking, and All are Welcome!  The life of faithful discipleship is an exciting journey of discovery for each of us as we come face to face with God's call upon our lives.  As a Christian faith community, here at Plantsville we seek to walk with one another on that journey of faith discovery!  We recognize each person who walks through our doors as a beloved child of God, and wherever you are upon life's path, we want to help you grow in faith.  Through our worship, opportunities for fellowship and learning, youth activities, the Church School program, and special mission opportunities, we endeavor to live out Christ's call to ministry and service in caring for each other, and the community both near and far.  Our congregation is a proud member of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ.  If you are looking for a loving community of people who value the many and varied ways to live faithfully, who encourge each other along the path of discipleship, we invite you to come journey with us!

MEMBERSHIP MISSION STATEMENT

At Plantsville Congregational United Church of Christ, we value questions, respect differences, and offer a warm welcome to persons of every background and circumstance.  We are rooted in congregational traditions, and proudly claim our covenant relationship with our sisters and brothers in the United Church of Christ.  We celebrate our "oneness" in Christ, while acknowledging and celebrating the many ways in which the people of God live out their faith.  We seek to provide a community of love that seeks to hear God's voice, where each person is nurtured and can grow in faith, and where the Spirit of God is evident in our actions: in ministry, outreach and caring.

Our Church Covenant:

"We covenant with one another to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God. Upheld by faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, we will work and pray for the presence of God's spirit in our lives today and forever."

Welcome to Plantsville Congregational United Church of Christ, Where God is still speaking, and YOU are welcome!

OUR PROGRAMS

Children - An exciting Church School Curriculum is provided for pre-kindergarden (age 4) through grade 8.  Classes for grades 9 - 12 are held twice a month.  Children are dismissed to their classes during the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service. A confirmation program is held for young people in grade 9.  Special programs for the whole church family are offered at various times during the church year.

Youth - All Middle and High School youth are encouraged to participate in the Junior and Senior Pilgrim Youth Fellowship (PYF) programs. Meetings are usually held on Sunday evenings from September through May.  The Acolytes are comprised of members of our confirmation class who actively participate in various liturgical church functions.

Adults - In addition to adult fellowship opportunities, all church members are eligible to serve on boards and committees, which facilitate the ministry and mission of the church.  Among these are Christian Action, Christian Education, Deaconate, Trustees, Memorial Garden Board, and Music Committee.

Music - The inspiring Adult Choir sings at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service.  The Choir is open to all youth and adults from high school and up.  A fabulous Handbell Choir also complements our musical program.

MISSION AND COMMUNITY

We reach out to the surrounding community with services such as hospital and homebound visitations, crisis cooking, the "Bread for Life" soup kitchen, a Thanksgiving food drive, "Relay for Life", the annual Southington Crop Walk, Southington's Food Bank, and "Bear Hugs and Prayers."  We reach out to the wider community through special offerings such as "Neighbors in Need," "One Great Hour of Sharing", and the "Heifer Project".

PASTORAL CARE

In addition to pastoral care provided by the clergy, parishioners and trained staff, volunteers care for each other and those of our wider community in times of crisis and life transitions by providing companionship, food, childcare, and transportation.  The Plantsville Congregational Church gathers for worship every Sunday, and celebrates the passages of life with baptismal, wedding, and funeral services, and other events throughout the church year.
